Colby Hall Calls Out Biden and Trump Trash Talking in Debate Announcement: Feels More Like Pro Wrestling for the White House
Mediaite’s Colby Hall appeared on NewsNation on Wednesday to discuss the sudden news of two — possibly three — presidential debates between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump.
Speaking with NewsNation anchor Connell McShane, Hall called the nature of the announcements from Biden and Trump “political theater,” and noted, “The New York Times published a prewritten article and CNN had a press release ready for the first debate.”
Hall added that the terms agreed upon by both candidates put everyone involved in a solid position:
I do think that this story is one of the rarest in recent politics, because everyone can come across claiming some sort of victory. Biden gets to control the terms. Trump gets a debate that he didn’t think would ever happen. And the actual terms of the debates that were agreed to, I think will really be good for the viewers. There’s a studio, there’s no audience. So I think everyone comes out of this as a winner.
Though the way the American voting audience found out about the first two debates — on social media — seemed to smack of something else in Hall’s view:
McShane: What odds would you put who’s less likely to show, or do you think they both will?
Hall: I think they both will. But like, you know, even there he’s trash talking. But Biden said at the end of his statement, “Make my day.” And then Trump said, “Let’s get ready to rumble.” I swear it’s less of political rhetoric and more pro wrestling. This is WWE for the White House, which will be entertaining. I just don’t know if that’s the best thing that our country needs.
