Comey to Maddow: Yes, Trump Told Me He Had a Personal Conversation With Putin About Hookers
Shortly before MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow sat down with former FBI Director James Comey for an hourlong interview, Congress released the redacted memos Comey had written about his interactions with President Donald Trump. Congress received the documents earlier in the day from the Justice Department.
A running theme in Comey’s memos is that Trump was obsessed with the Steele dossier and the allegation the Kremlin had kompromat on him, namely a tape of prostitutes urinating on a bed in Moscow Ritz-Carlton room. In one of his memos detailing a February 2017 meeting with Trump, Comey mentioned that the while the president denied having any interactions with hookers, Russian President Vladimir Putin had told him Russia had the world’s most beautiful hookers.
During the interview Thursday night, Maddow asked Comey about this interaction and whether this happened at the White House. After Comey noted it occurred in the Oval Office, Maddow pressed him further to highlight what had been said.
“He told you he’d had a personal conversation with president Putin about hookers?” Maddow asked.
“Yes,” Comey responded.
The MSNBC anchor then questioned whether Trump may have been speaking hyperbolically, causing the ex-FBI chief to answer that it didn’t appear to be the case.
Maddow and Comey then discussed whether or not Trump and Putin used their January 2017 phone call — Trump has claimed this was the first time they had spoken to each other — to discuss hookers.
