David Letterman ‘Doesn’t Like It’ When Brian Williams Goes On Jay Leno’s Show

NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams was a guest on CBS’ Late Show with David Letterman last night and the cross network appearance was a major theme of the discussion.

From the very first question, Letterman (armed with his Jay Leno impression) joked at his rival’s expense while Williams played the role of mediator.

“You probably go on the Jay Leno show, don’t you?” asked Letterman to start the interview. “I do,” said Williams. “We have a robust slate of evening programming.”

“But I don’t like it when you go on that show,” said Letterman, leading to a discussion as to why New York is better than L.A., Leno’s garage and how Williams has transitioned into Tom Brokaw‘s role so well.

But the main point from Letterman revolved around this: “I like to think of you and me as more real guys, as opposed to you and Jay.”

Williams does a good job of deflecting the harshest critiques of Leno from Letterman and playing along when he could. From his SNL guest hosting stint to his “Slow-Jamming The News” with The Roots on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Williams shines in late night appearances. Even when the topic is awkward.

Here’s the beginning of the interview (via Gawker TV):
