Dem Lawmaker Calls GOP Senate Candidate ‘Uncle Tom’ at Hillary-Led Rally
At a Saturday rally for incumbent Sen. Kay Hagan (D-NC), a fellow Democratic lawmaker called the GOP Senate challenger an “Uncle Tom” during her remarks.
The woman behind such remarks was Alma Adams, a Democratic member of the North Carolina General Assembly currently running for Congress in the state’s 12th District. “We need to send ‘Uncle Tom’ — Tillis, that is — home,” she said of the GOP Senate challenger Thom Tillis, who is white.
Hillary Clinton headlined the rally, showing her support for Hagan and other North Carolinian Democrats. According to the Weekly Standard, she even offered praise for Adams, seemingly ignoring the “Uncle Tom” remark.
“We need more women like her in Congress,” Clinton said of Adams. “We need her compassion and her common sense. We need her sartorial excellence. She’s going to shake things up.”
