Dem Leader: GOP ‘Penchant for Self-Destruction’ Could Help Us Take Back House

Democratic House Leader Steny Hoyer was on MSNBC this morning and told a somewhat skeptical Steve Kornacki that far from what conventional wisdom suggests, the Democrats will do very well in the midterms and could actually take back the House. And he credited this in part to how badly the Republicans could screw it up along the way.

Hoyer said that this year, Democrats are running great candidates and the party is out-raising the GOP by a pretty good margin. But that’s not all that gave him confidence for the fall.

He said, “My experience over the last three or four years is that Republicans have a penchant for self-destruction. They have a penchant for doing things the American public shakes their head at.”

Hoyer asserted that the majority of the public agrees with Democrats on the big issues facing the country, and while midterms generally don’t go well for the incumbent president’s party, Hoyer was very optimistic about the Democrats’ chances in November.
