Economist To Fox: Obama Has ‘Basically Put A Pistol To The Head Of The Middle Class’

Fox News contributor and University of Maryland economics professor Peter Morici had some choice words for President Obama during an appearance on America’s Newsroom on Sunday. Referring to the president’s “my way or the highway” approach to fiscal cliff negotiations, Morici said Obama has “basically put a pistol to the head of the middle class.”

Morici began by speaking about the alternative minimum tax, which “has a threshold that we have been adjusting over time for inflation.” If nothing’s done about that, he said, “many middle-income Americans will pay 26 to 28 percent of their income in taxes.”

“The president, by being so persistent that it’s my way or the highway — no spending cuts, taxes on folks over $250,000 or nothing — has basically put a pistol to the head of the middle class,” Morici said.

“It’s threatened them with financial extortion if he doesn’t get his way to satisfy the populist wing of the Democratic Party,” he added.
