Elizabeth Warren Jokes: Scott Brown Headed to Maine Next

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) stopped by Late Night with Seth Meyers last night, where she allowed herself a brief celebration over Scott Brown’s defeat by Democrat Jeanne Shaheen in the New Hampshire Senate race last Tuesday. “Woo-hoo!” she exclaimed when Seth Meyers mentioned the news.

As Meyers pointed out, Warren beat Brown in the Massachusetts Senate race in 2012 before he decided to try his hand in New Hampshire. “So he’s slowly moving north.”

“That’s right, we hear he’s going to Maine,” Warren joked.

The senator then characteristically moved on to more serious matters, namely the way she expects average consumers to be treated by the new Republican majority in Congress. She declined to answer Meyers’ question about Democrats distancing themselves from President Barack Obama, but she did take the opportunity the draw a contrast between the left on the right on issues like Wall Street reform.

“What Mitch McConnell said just a couple of days ago is he wants to go to Congress and loosen the regulations over the big banks,” Warren told Meyers. “Now, I don’t think very many people went to the polls and said, Boy, I am casting my vote to make sure that Wall Street has better chances to make bigger profits off the backs of the American people. I mean, I just don’t think that’s what was going on.”
