Elizabeth Warren Keeps 2020 Fires Burning: ‘We Can’t Wait Four Years to Stop Donald Trump’
During her appearance on Wednesday’s Morning Joe, Massachusetts senator Elizabeth Warren was asked about whether her plans for opposing Donald Trump include running for president.
Warren spoke with Willie Geist about how progressive politics advance bipartisan interests for many Americans, and Democrats should recommit themselves to positive change. Geist took the opportunity to ask Warren about all the intrigue on whether she will fight Trump for the White House in 2020.
Warren wouldn’t explicitly confirm her future ambitions, saying she was more concerned with the upcoming Senate races in 2018. Warren will be up for re-election during this period, and she explained that she’s focused on challenging Trump in her current capacity instead of making plans so far down the line.
“We have to be in this fight urgently, right now,” Warren said. “We can’t wait four years to stop Donald Trump…Democracy works if we engage in the fights right now.”
Warren went on to say that even though Trump’s actions cause her concern on a regular basis, energized political movements around the country are already becoming a force that government officials cannot ignore or silence.
