Emotional Erika Kirk Thanks Trump: ‘Mr. President, My Husband Loved You’
Erika Kirk, the wife of late conservative activist Charlie Kirk, thanked President Donald Trump on Friday in her first public words since her husband was shot and killed, saying, “Mr. President, my husband loved you.”
In the emotional appearance in front of reporters, Kirk stood at a podium next to her late husband’s infamous podcasting chair in Phoenix, Arizona. He was assassinated on Wednesday at a Utah Valley University event. Law enforcement announced on Friday morning that the alleged suspect, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, was in custody.
“I want to thank President Trump and his incredible family,” said Kirk through tears. “Mr. President, my husband loved you. And he knew that you loved him, too. He did. Your friendship was amazing. You supported him so well.”
Trump, in an appearance on Fox & Friends Friday morning, called the late Kirk an “unbelievable warrior” and “a great man” who is going to be “more important because of what happened.”
Kirk’s wife also thanked Vice President JD Vance and his wife, Usha Vance, for “their love and support.” “You guys honored my husband so well, bringing him home,” she said. The Vance couple accompanied Kirk on Friday on Air Force One, as she flew alongside her husband’s body from Utah to Arizona.
