‘Extremely Dangerous’: Garland Responds to Trump’s Claim DOJ Gave Authorization to Kill Him In Mar-a-Lago Raid
Attorney General Merrick Garland said former President Donald Trump’s claim that the FBI was authorized to kill him is false and “extremely dangerous.”
Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Garland responded to allegations from Trump and his allies that the Department of Justice had authorized FBI agents to use deadly force against him during the raid on Mar-a-Lago.
Back in August 2022, the FBI searched Trump’s resort in order to recover classified documents. Following the search warrant, Trump was indicted by Special Counsel Jack Smith in Florida.
A policy statement written by the FBI at the time and revealed to the public earlier this week showed that agents were authorized to use deadly force if they were under immediate threat. Trump was not mentioned in the statement and was not present on the property when the search was conducted.
In response, Trump has begun fundraising to supporters with the message that the FBI was authorized to kill him, claiming he “nearly escaped death,” according to Reuters.
“That allegation is false, and it is extremely dangerous. The document that is being referred to in the allegation is the Justice Department standard policy limiting the use of force,” Garland told reporters.
He added, “As the FBI advises, it is part of the standard operations plan for searches. And in fact, it was even used in the consensual search of President Biden’s home.”
