Former Biden Official Tells MSNBC Trump ‘Desperate To Show That He’s in Charge’ with Musk as ‘Acting President’

Former Biden White House Deputy Press Secretary Andrew Bates claimed on MSNBC Saturday that President Donald Trump is “desperate” to prove he is running the country.

Bates joined MSNBC anchor Jonathan Capehart for an interview on Saturday evening where the pair discussed Trump’s recent spat with Maine Gov. Janet Mills (D) over transgender athletes participating in women’s sports.

Trump told Mills that the White House is ” the federal law” while threatening to cut off funding to the state if they do not enforce his executive order barring athletes born male from competing in women’s sports.. Bates claimed that this was a desperate” attempt by Trump to “show that he’s in charge” and suggested the president does not have “the energy to do this job.” Bates said:

Yeah, I think this is someone who’s desperate to show that he’s in charge. I don’t know if he has the energy to do this job, maybe that’s why he’s basically letting Elon Musk be the acting president. But I think you see him lashing out. You see him trying to take as much power unto himself as he possibly can.

He’s even letting the richest person in the world rummage through our Social Security information, our IRS data. So I don’t know if he feels secure about his role in this government or not, but it’s obvious that a lot of Americans are getting more and more concerned, especially when you see the backlash at these constituent town halls.
