Former Trump Adviser Says ‘I’ve Lost a Lot of Money’ Because of the Tariffs – ‘But Things Are Gonna Get Better’

Stephen Moore, a former senior economic adviser to President Donald Trump, revealed he’s “lost a lot of money” this week thanks to Trump’s tariffs. But, he said, they will be worth the pain.

Trump announced major across-the-board tariffs on Wednesday, prompting stocks to crater the past two trading sessions. Virtually all imports will be tariffed at least 10%, though dozens of countries’ exports to the U.S. will face dramatically higher tariffs. Additionally, all automobile imports are subject to a 25% tariff. To justify the measures, Trump used a strange calculation to falsely claim U.S. trading partners are levying massive tariffs of their own.

Moore appeared on Friday’s Jesse Watters Primetime on Fox News and was asked about Trump’s policies.

“So, what is the strategy, Stephen Moore?” Jesse Watters asked. “Is it [to] negotiate down other countries’ tariffs or keep our tariffs up for however long it takes to bring all high-end manufacturing back home?”

“[W]e should acknowledge that people are feeling very worried right now,” Moore responded. “They’re very nervous. I’ve lost a lot of money. A lot of people lost a lot of money in the last week. It’s been a brutal week. But I’m here to tell you things are gonna get better. Trump is gonna win. I would never bet against this president.”

Moore went on to say he believes that other countries will “make concessions”

“How much did you lose this week, Stephen?” Watters asked.

“You’d have to ask my wife that question,” Moore replied, chuckling. “But look, the market is down a lot and we’re all feeling the effects of that. But as Trump has said, it’s some short-term pain for long-term gain. Rebuilding the American economy in a way that will bring a lot of jobs back and make American industry a lot healthier. Look, this is a president who puts America first and he’s trying to put American industry and American workers first. I don’t agree with all his strategies here, but I’m gonna say it again, I’ve been around Donald Trump for eight years. I would never bet against this guy.”
