Former Trump Official Marc Short: Ivanka’s Private Email Use ‘Hypocritical’ and ‘Certainly Looks Bad’

Marc Short, President Donald Trump’s former legislative affairs director, reacted to a report that Ivanka Trump used a personal email account to send hundreds of emails on government business on CNN Tuesday.

Appearing on New Day, Short was asked by host Alisyn Camerota about the obvious absurdity of the report, given President Trump’s campaign was founded on the premise that Hillary Clinton should have been jailed for using a private email server while secretary of state.

“It’s hypocritical and it certainly looks bad,” Short said. “And I’m sure the media will have a field day with it today.”

“I do think there are a couple distinctions to make,” Short said. “One is that Hillary Clinton did delete 30,000 emails, she had I.T. specialists come put a server in her home, and there was classified information as secretary of state that she put on there.”

Ivanka Trump’s ethics counsel pleaded ignorance on behalf of the first daughter in a statement: “Like most people, before entering into government service, Ms. Trump used a private email. When she entered the government, she was given a government email account for official use. While transitioning into government, until the White House provided her the same guidance they had to others who started before she did, Ms. Trump sometimes used her private account, almost always for logistics and scheduling concerning her family.”

Many have noted it’s hard to fathom Ivanka wasn’t wary of conducting government business on a private email account given her father made it the cornerstone of his campaign.
