Fox & Friends Celebrate Trump’s Controversial Chrisley Family Pardon

Fox & Friends appeared to delight in the news that President Donald Trump pardoned reality TV stars Todd and Julie Chrisley, arguing they were overpunished.

The couple gained fame on reality TV with their show, Chrisley Knows Best, but were convicted in 2022 of defrauding banks of millions of dollars and subsequently jailed on charges related to some $30 million in fraudulent loans. Todd Chrisley received a 12-year jail sentence, while Julie was sentenced to seven years for the scheme.

NBC News reported in February that the couple was petitioning Trump for a pardon.

“They believe that the president will seriously consider pardoning both Julie and Todd Chrisley as a result of the unfair treatment they received in the criminal justice system,” Jay Surgent, an attorney for the Chrisleys, told NBC at the time.

Trump White House communications aide Margo Martin shared the moment Trump called Savannah Chrisley, who spoke at the 2024 Republican National Convention, from the Oval Office. Martin’s post included a bit of levity, writing, “Trump Knows Best!”

Lawrence Jones connected news of the pardon to Trump’s campaign promise to “stop the weaponization of the feds when it comes the FBI, these US attorney’s offices as well.”

And one of the arguments that [Trump] made is that he wasn’t the only one that was targeted,” by the feds, Jones continued.  “There has been overcharging going on with the fed. You’ve got criminals running the street, and then you’ve got people on tax charges that are serving 10 years. A lot of people don’t feel like that’s fair. Two of the folks were the Chrisley family.

They were sentenced to a combined 19 years,” noted Ainsley Earhardt. “You were going to say 12, according to this article, it’s 19 years in prison. That’s a long time for tax evasion.”

“Seven for her, 12 for him,” Brian Kilmeade added, before listing the crimes they were convicted of and lost on appeal.

“I thought they were accused of submitting fraudulent documents when applying for bank loans. Julie, the wife. Also, allegedly submitted fake credit reports and bank statements while attempting to rent a house over in California. They were convicted in ’22 of multiple crimes, including orchestrating a $30 million bank fraud and tax evasion,” he explained the raft of fraud and tax evasion crimes they were found guilty of, before adding, “And they did it in front of a very popular reality show. So it’s definitely white collar crime.”

They’ve been serving for two and a half years already,” Earhardt added. “It was January two years ago, so almost two-and-a-half years. And their daughter Savannah’s been fighting for them. She said on social media that she’s raising all of the kids. If you watch that show, it’s a cute family, a family about faith and trying to do the right thing, and it takes you through several moves in their house. And Savannah going to college and things like that. So America’s embraced this family. And they were convicted. But they’ve served their time. For two and a half years, they were taken away from their family and both are serving together.”

“When you look at the American people, it’s very simple for them when they look at their communities and they look how unsafe they are,” Jones opined. “I mean, we get reports every single day of the administration. Busting illegals that were in the country for violent offenses, and none of them have served any of the time. We just let them there. So when you have a U.S. Attorney’s office that is focused on this and you’ve got some folks that have already served their time, I think the president felt like it was overcharging there and there were some irregularities in the case.”

Kilmeade then mentioned calls for Trump to pardon embattled rapper Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, which Earhardt injected, “that’s a different crime.”

I don’t think anyone seeing this the trial would be like that, this is not really up the president’s alley, unlike this good white collar crime, Kilmeade agreed.” I’m looking at what some of the colors on that trial are pretty unbelievable.”
