Fox News Airs Footage of Rachel Maddow Shading Network for Amplifying Trump’s Lies: ‘There Is a Cost to Us as a News Organization’
Fox News anchor Trace Gallagher spoke to OutKick founder and right-wing radio host Clay Travis on Tuesday about media coverage of the GOP Iowa caucus the night before, resulting in the pair blasting Fox’s rival networks.
Travis urged Fox viewers to get in line behind Trump and advised the former president to start his campaign against Biden, despite the primary season just beginning. Trump should “start thinking about how to appeal to suburban women, to start to reach out to those middle-of-the-road voters, independent voters, and start to run his general campaign today,” Tavis declared.
“I think Rachel Maddow is starting to warm up to the former president. I just wanted to play some sound from her and then get your take on the other side,” replied Gallagher segueing to a clip from MSNBC.
“There is a reason that we and other news organizations have generally stopped giving an unfiltered, live platform to remarks by former President Trump. It is not out of spite. It is not a decision that we relish. It is a decision that we regularly revisit. Um, and honestly, honestly, it is not an easy decision. But there is a cost to us as a news organization of knowingly broadcasting untrue things,” said Rachel Maddow in the clip from Monday night.
Notably, Maddow was specifically referring to Trump’s lies regarding the 2020 presidential election, which led to Fox News settling a lawsuit with Dominion Voting Systems to which it paid $787 million.
“I thought the policy was to knowingly only broadcast untrue things, so I’m confused at the whole premise,” said Gallagher in response to Maddow.
“Well, look at where we are right now, where Democrats have basically decided that in order to preserve democracy, they have to not allow Donald Trump to be seen on their airwaves,” replied Travis, despite the fact that MSNBC covers Trump relentlessly.
“By the way, the number one way who we decide who to vote for is by listening to what the leading candidates say. So they’re doing a disservice to their audience,” Travis continued, adding:
But also, this is part and parcel of the larger complex. Understand what’s going on here. They are trying to take Donald Trump off the ballot. Democrats are and also put him in prison for the rest of his life. And at MSNBC and CNN as well, because Jake Tapper took him off the air because CNN said, oh, we can’t allow this kind of anti-immigrant rhetoric to air, right. What they are trying to do is rig the election by not allowing their audience to actually see what Trump says. And oh, by the way, you correct me if I’m wrong.
Has Rachel Maddow ever come on the air and apologized to her audience at MSNBC for telling everyone that if they got the Covid shot, they would neither get nor spread Covid? Because that’s misinformation. It’s 100% factually inaccurate. I haven’t seen Rachel Maddow come on and apologize to the MSNBC audience for getting that wrong. So I think it’s interesting what MSNBC decides is permissible and impermissible. I think as a foundation of democracy, we should have as much speech from the political candidates as possible to allow everyone to understand their positions the best. And that’s evidently a policy that MSNBC doesn’t subscribe to.
“That Maddow list, by the way, is a lot longer. You can go from Russian collusion all the way to the laptop and on and on and on it goes,” concluded Gallagher.
