Fox News Guest Says Gavin Newsom Supporters Are ‘Wishy-Washy on the Jewish Question’

A Fox News guest opted for an interesting choice of phrase while discussing supporters of California Governor Gavin Newsom.

A federal judge on Tuesday ordered the Trump administration to restore hundreds of research grants to UCLA that were canceled by President Donald Trump. The administration is seeking a $1 billion settlement from the university in connection with protests against Israel’s ongoing invasion of Gaza. Last month, the school settled separately with a group of Jewish students who were excluded from parts of the campus and alleged that anti-Israel displays at an encampment violated their religious liberty.

Newsom has vowed to fight the Trump administration’s legal assault on UCLA.

On Tuesday’s Jesse Watters Primetime on Fox News, guest host Brian Kilmeade welcomed Sheila Nazarian, a plastic surgeon, to discuss the matter.

“How do you feel about the governor’s stand?” Kilmeade asked.

“You mentioned in the Democratic Party, how their rating is so low,” Nazarian replied. “I believe it’s low because the base thinks they’re not radical enough. They’re not standing up strongly against Trump enough, not because they’re not centrists, but because the party has moved so far to the left.”

Nazarian then pivoted to Newsom, whom she alleged was grandstanding on behalf of UCLA and is unwilling to defend Jewish students. In doing so, she accused Newsom’s supporters of being “wishy-washy on the Jewish question”:

So, in this sense, do I think Gavin Newsom is an anti-Semite? No. Do I think that if this was any other minority group – Black people, Mexicans, Asians – this would not be an issue. He would be taking a stand on the other side of it.

But because it’s the Jews, an easy target, because his base is wishy-washy on the Jewish question, and because he’s standing up to Trump and, you know, showing some real fortitude there to rile up his base, it’s acceptable for him to say such things. But I’m telling you, if the KKK had been at UCLA’s campus, preventing Black kids from going to their classes, this would not be handled this way for sure.

Historically, the “Jewish question” referred to the manner in which Jews were to be treated in European societies. Its most infamous manifestation came in Germany during the Nazi regime, which sought a “final solution to the Jewish question.”
