Fox’s Neil Cavuto Grills Far-Right Congressman About Speaker Mess: ‘You Guys Are Looking Like Keystone Cops’
Fox Business host Neil Cavuto grilled Rep. Bob Good (R-VA) over the chaos unfolding in the House GOP over the battle to find a new speaker following Rep. Kevin McCarthy’s (R-CA) ouster.
Two likely successors for speaker are Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) and Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA); however, while Scalise received the majority of votes in the GOP caucus he was not able to summon the 217 votes needed to secure the support of the majority of the House overall.
Cavuto pressed Good, who supports Jordan, about the party’s inability to unite around a speaker, noting Republicans “can’t seem to run” the House.
“Are you worried, though? No offense to you, congressman, but you guys are looking kind of like Keystone Cops here,” Cavuto added. “You can’t get this done and it doesn’t bode well for Americans, in their opinion, of you running the House because you can’t seem to run it.”
Good responded, “Well, remember, that was said back in January and a week or two later, nobody cared that it took a few extra days to elect a speaker. We got to get this right. We will live with the impact of this decision for decades.”
Cavuto then responded that McCarthy’s speakership did blow up due to the motion vacate only requiring one member in the party to bring up the resolution.
CAVUTO: Would you be for that vote to vacate the chair when all it takes is one for you guys to torpedo a speaker?
GOOD: Well, only one one person can bring up the vote to consider whether or not to retain the speaker. One person can’t remove the speaker.
CAVUTO: But it worked..Matt Gaetz brought it up and he got what he wanted. One guy.
GOOD: Well, it wasn’t just one guy.
CAVUTO: But he lit the match. That’s what some of your more moderate colleagues are saying, that this is a mistake if it’s if it’s used again.
