GOP Sen. Mike Lee: Christie Should Retract ‘Unnecessarily Inflammatory’ Remarks
New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has made it quite clear on his not-yet-a-campaign trail that he isn’t part of the Republican civil libertarian crowd. Last night, he literally said that “you can’t enjoy your civil liberties if you’re in a coffin.”
That, of course, did not necessarily sit well with some other Republicans. Senator Mike Lee was on with MSNBC’s Alex Wagner this afternoon to discuss an upcoming Senate bill to rein in the NSA’s bulk metadata collection.
When she brought up Christie’s remarks, Lee said it’s a “false choice” and even went so far as to say, “I think he should retract that statement.”
And a few minutes later, when Wagner asked Lee if he’s “disappointed” by what other Republicans have said on these issues, he again scolded Christie for his “unnecessarily inflammatory” remarks and called for a discussion “based on facts rather than emotion.”
