‘He’s Not a Democrat!’ NYC House Dem Bashes Zohran Mamdani on Fox News
Representative Tom Suozzi (D-NY) bashed his party’s New York City mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani as during a Fox News interview on Monday, fewer than 24 hours before Election Day.
Suozzi, who has endorsed former governor Andrew Cuomo, insisted that Mamdani was not the “future” of his party: “I think that someone asked me before, is Zohran Mamdani the future of the Democratic Party? I said, no, he’s the future of the Democratic Socialist Party. He’s not a Democrat. And I’m a Democratic capitalist, not a Democratic Socialist.”
Appearing on Fox News Channel’s America’s Newsroom, Suozzi argued that Democrats, if they want to remain a party of working families, need to realign with voters on their economic anxieties: “The Democrats need to get back to our basic message of fighting for the middle class and the people who aspire to the middle-class, to focus on the economic issues that made our country strong.”
He continued to then argue that Mamdani and President Donald Trump share a knack for “tapping into people’s economic insecurity,” and warned Democrats not to “fall for this trap.”
With former President Barack Obama reportedly calling Mamdani to praise his campaign, without endorsing him, anchor Bill Hemmer asked Suozzi what observers of the race and American politics should “read into that fact.”
“We have to look at the fact that Mamdani, again, like President Trump, is a very charismatic person, he’s a very effective campaigner, he knows how to use social media, he is very intelligent, and he’s tapped into,” Suozzi said.
He added: “This anxiety people have about their finances, and the same as President Trump has. The problem is, his solutions, raise taxes in New York, raise the minimum wage in New York, are bad ideas because New York’s not competitive with the rest of the country.”
