Hillary Clinton Slams ‘Cynical Campaign’ of Donald Trump: ‘He Actually Incites Violence’
Just as he had done with Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders earlier in the night, CNN’s Jake Tapper asked Hillary Clinton to weigh in on the violence that we have seen emerge recently from Donald Trump rallies.
“You had a few choice words about the Republican frontrunner… what are your concerns?” asked Tapper.
Clinton admitted that Trump — who is currently the leading delegate holder in the GOP race for the nomination — has been running a “cynical campaign” up until this point. She continued:
[Donald Trump] actually incites violence in the way that he urges his audience on. you know, talking about punching people, offering to pay legal bills — and then on the specifics, you know, we know that he has been incredibly bigoted towards so many groups. he talks about deporting 11, 12 million immigrants, and we are a nation built on immigrants. and he talks about preventing muslims from coming into the country, and we believe in religious freedom — there is just so much of what he’s doing that I think that we all have to are reject. Because, it is so at odds with our values. you don’t make America great by tearing down everything that made America great. And so let’s stand up and with one voice reject that.
“Donald Trump is responsible for what happens at his events,” the former Secretary of State clarified when Tapper asked about the role of Democratic voters violently protesting recent Trump gatherings. “He is playing to our worst instincts,” she said.
