House Republican Says 77 Million Americans Voted for Trump – ‘And Yes, Elon Musk’
Rep. Ralph Norman (R-SC) said when voters cast ballots for President Donald Trump last November, they were also voting for Elon Musk.
Musk, the billionaire owner of X and the CEO of Tesla spent $277 million to return Trump to the White House. For his support, Trump appointed Musk to lead the “Department of Government Efficiency.” Since the inauguration, Musk has laid off thousands of federal employees and frozen spending at some agencies, prompting some voters to yell at their Republican lawmakers who support the effort.
During a meeting of the House Rules Committee on Monday, Norman slammed the Biden administration’s record and pointed to the election to say Americans wanted change.
“The verdict was rendered on November 5, with 77 million people voting the way they did for Donald Trump – and yes, Elon Musk, with what he’s doing,” Norman said.
Although “DOGE” is not a formal federal department – since it was neither created nor funded by Congress – Musk has wielded immense power in his role as the leader of the group, which Trump administration officials have insisted Musk does not actually run. But Trump himself has stated Musk is in charge. In a court hearing on Monday, a federal judge asked a lawyer for the Department of Justice who is leading the group.
“Is there an administrator of DOGE at the present time?” Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly asked
“I don’t know the answer to that,” Department of Justice trial counsel Bradley Humphreys responded.
The hearing concerned Musk’s access to records at the Department of the Treasury, where last month a top official resigned after he refused to give the billionaire access to the department’s payments system.
