Huckabee Disagrees with Carson: You Shouldn’t Disqualify Based on Faith
In a Monday Fox Business interview, Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee said he disagreed with fellow candidate Ben Carson‘s statement that a Muslim should never become President of the United States.
The Wall Street Journal’s Jon Hilsenrath asked Huckabee about the comments during the former Arkansas governor’s appearance on Mornings with Maria. “I wonder what’s you view on this issue of whether the country is ready for a Muslim to be president? What do you think about that.”
“Well, there’s no religious test for a person to hold public office in America,” Huckabee said. “I think it would depend on the individual. I don’t think we should just disqualify somebody because of his or her faith, whether that person is a Muslim or Christian.”
Huckabee declined to say Carson was “out of line” when pressed to do so. “I’m not going to evaluate Ben Carson. I’m going to let Ben Carson speak for himself, I’ll speak for myself.”
