‘I’m Not Taking Your Follow-Up!’ Karoline Leavitt Blows Off CNN’s Kaitlan Collins in Heated Exchange

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt got snippy with CNN’s Kaitlan Collins, when the anchor and chief White House correspondent attempted to ask her a follow-up question about the bombshell leaked Signal chat at Wednesday’s press briefing.

The topic of the day was the stunning reporting in two articles from The Atlantic editor in chief Jeffrey Goldberg, describing how National Security Adviser Mike Waltz had accidentally added him in a group chat on the encrypted messaging app Signal that included the “principals committee,” top level national security agency officials in President Donald Trump’s administration, as they discussed war plans and messaging strategies related to striking the Iranian-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen earlier this month.

According to Goldberg’s bombshell report, besides Waltz the chat apparently included Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Central Intelligence Agency Director John Ratcliffe, White House chief of staff Susie Wiles, “and someone identified only as ‘S M,’ which I took to stand for [Homeland Security advisor and White House deputy chief of staff] Stephen Miller.”

Goldberg then followed up with a new article Wednesday morning that shared the attack plans Hegseth and others insisted were not in the group chat, including more screenshots of the conversations.

At the press briefing, Leavitt took an immediately contentious tone, casting blame on “Democrats and their propagandists in the mainstream media,” as well as bashing Goldberg as an “anti-Trump hater.”

When Leavitt called on her, Collins said she had two questions, one as a follow up to something Leavitt had just said.

“Since we have these messages released,” said Collins, “and you said that the president has now personally reviewed them — in the chat, at one point, Pete Hegseth wrote, ‘1415: Strike Drones on Target,’ and then he wrote in all caps, he said, ‘THIS IS WHEN THE FIRST BOMBS WILL DEFINITELY DROP.’ Does the president feel that he was misled by his national security advisers, whoever it was that him there was no classified information in there, now that he’s seen those messages?”

“I’ve now been asked and answered this question three times by the both of you,” replied Leavitt, “and I’ve given you my answer: the president feels the same today as he did yesterday.”

Leavitt then called on another reporter as Collins raised her hand and attempted to ask another question.

“OK, sorry, on my follow-up on what you had just said –” Collins began.

“Go ahead, Phillip,” Leavitt interjected.

“I have a follow-up, I have a quick –” Collins tried again.

“Kaitlan, I’m not taking your follow-up — Phillip, go ahead,” said Leavitt.

“I have a follow-up on something you just said though, Karoline, that’s –” replied Collins.

“Kaitlan. I’m not your follow-up,” Leavitt said more emphatically. “Phillip, go ahead, I have called on you.”
