‘I’m Trying to Hold My Temper’: MSNBC Panelist Seethes Over Trump’s DC Crime Crackdown

Princeton University professor Eddie Glaude admitted he was “trying” to hold his “temper” while covering President Donald Trump’s deployment of the National Guard to Washington, D.C. as part of his crime crackdown.

Glaude joined MSNBC’s Chris Jansing on Monday as part of a panel shortly after Trump’s announcement on tackling crime in D.C., during which the president called D.C. one of the most “dangerous” cities in the world.

Critics have pushed back on Trump’s actions, noting that violent crime has been going down in D.C., according to police statistics. Compared to 2024, violent crime is down 26% this year. The president has insisted, however, that crime is still a major concern in the area. According to MPD’s data, while crime has fallen, there have also been 100 homicides this year so far.

Trump declared a “public safety emergency,” but Glaude claimed crime is not the president’s concern.

The analyst said:

Chris, to be honest with you, I’m trying to hold my temper. I think there’s an ongoing argument that he’s having in his head with Black Lives Matter. There’s an ongoing argument that he’s having with the questions around criminal justice reform and police reform. It’s interesting that he really doesn’t really care about what’s actually happening in D.C. on a certain level, because he’s not trying to get at the underlying root causes. He’s not looking at examples of how to address rising crime rates that doesn’t require a form of policing that leads to increased incarceration.

Glaude further accused the president of using the “public safety emergency” as a distraction from calls for more documents related to convicted predator Jeffrey Epstein to be made public. He did, however, acknowledge fellow panelist David Drucker’s point that crime is a concern for those living in D.C., especially since spikes during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“He’s [Trump] actually trying to give his base red meat to get them off of the Epstein story,” he said. “And it’s on the backs of citizens in Washington, D.C. He’s going to undermine the democratic process in the district!”
