‘Is It Good for the Country…’: Chris Matthews Smacks Down Third-Party Talk
Chris Matthews seemed rather irritated tonight about all the third-party talk and said he’s not even sure having one in there would ultimately be good for the nation.
As Howard Fineman and Michael Steele made the case for why this year is a good opportunity for a viable Libertarian ticket, Matthews kept raising doubts about their viability, ability to qualify for the debates, and the fact that “they’re not gonna win electoral votes.”
“Is it good for the country,’ he asked, “for the country to be governed by somebody who loses in a three-way race?”
He said anyone voting for a third-party candidate is not engaged in “honest voting” because they’re not actually choosing someone they want for president.
Matthews likened it to “siphoning gas out of somebody’s car” for the sole purpose of hurting them.
