Ivanka Explains Nepotistic Relationship with President Trump: ‘He’s My Father and My Boss’

Ivanka Trump sat down with Good Morning America’s Deborah Roberts for a wide-ranging interview that covered her use of private emails for government business, what some see as her father’s divisive rhetoric and force used at the border.

Ms. Trump is nothing if not well media-trained, and her ability to pivot to softball platitudes (in an oddly over-enunciated whisper of a voice) would make any publicist blush. But it was her strange non-answer when questioned about how she advises her father, President Donald Trump, that again revealed the blurring of lines between her roles as adviser and daughter.

When asked specifically about the president’s divisive tone, Ms. Trump offered a wry smile, and said: “He’s my father and he’s my boss.” She added, “and one of the reasons that I have such a good relationship with him in both a personal and professional capacity is because I am incredibly candid with him.” She then hedged and said, “but my discussions with him are between me and him, and that makes sense for anyone who has a seat at the table.”

Roberts pressed if the “First Daughter” disagreed with the president from time to time, to which Ivanka replied, “Oh frequently,” adding “he knows exactly where I stand on any issue.”

Ms. Trump’s official White House title is “Advisor to the President,” a role she officially accepted after appointment from her father, President Trump, in March of 2017. Ms. Trump had unofficially advised her father in an unofficial capacity in his run for office, but her role as a senior government came with zero experience as a civil servant, but a lifetime of experience as the President’s daughter.

In any other circumstance, this would be called out as nepotism, which is defined as the practice among those with power or influence of favoring relatives or friends, especially by giving them jobs.

After advising her father in an unofficial capacity for the first two months of his administration, she was appointed Advisor to the President, a government employee, from which she draws no salary.  The New York Times reported in 2017 that the net worth of  Ivanka Trump and husband Jared Kushner to be over $700 Million.

Both Ivanka and Jared are heirs to real estate moguls, and continue to draw large profits from the private sector — as well as legal troubles that accompany those fortunes.
