James Comer Lashes Out at NBC News Host For Confronting Him on Biden Loans: ‘You’re Financially Illiterate!’
House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) accused NBC News Capitol Hill correspondent Ryan Nobles of being “financially illiterate” during a heated interview on Tuesday over Republican attempts to impeach President Joe Biden.
During the interview on Meet the Press NOW, Nobles said:
Let’s talk about the evidence that you’ve collected and let’s try and pinpoint exactly how you believe that that leads to articles of impeachment. And we can’t possibly address every claim, so we’re going to try and focus on one if we can, and that is the money that you have uncovered that has come from Hunter Biden, the president’s son, and has made it to Joe Biden himself. Now in each one of these instances, there is a paper trail that demonstrates that these were interest-free loans from the President to his side. So explain to me how an interest-free loan, which one could argue Joe Biden actually lost money on, an example of him being benefited from influence peddling.
Comer replied, “Well, you say there’s evidence proving it’s a loan. I’ve never seen evidence that proves it’s a loan. I’m from a banking background. If I loan you $250,000 and then you pay me back $250,000, then I should have a check to you for $250,000.”
“But there is, sir. You have back records. You have bank records that show that the money came from one account into the other,” said Nobles.
Comer protested, “That’s not true. I’m sorry, but that is not true. You’re not providing factual information; you’re providing talking points from the White House and the Biden legal team.”
As the interview went on, Nobles told Comer, “A lot of this is based on innuendo and suggestion; it’s not based on hard evidence, sir.”
He added, “You’re calling it an influence-peddling scheme, and you don’t even know definitively whether or not it’s a loan?”
Comer snapped, “You don’t understand. It’s like you’re financially illiterate. You look like a smart guy on TV. Listen, I’m a banker. You know, I’ve been involved in a bank board for a long time. The money that the Bidens pay Joe Biden back with came from influence peddling.”
Comer then went on to accuse Nobles of “attacking” him.
“I’m not attacking you, sir,” Nobles insisted, to which Comer replied, “You’ve attacked me the whole time I’ve stood here.”
Nobles shot back, “I’ve been asking you serious questions about this investigation that many people have had for a long time.”
