John McCain Asks Colbert if He Should Run for President Again in 2016

Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) appeared on The Colbert Report to promote his new book, Thirteen Soldiers: A Personal History of Americans at War and discuss issues like ISIS and the departure of Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel. But it was a comment he made at the very end of the conversation that got the most attention.

When Stephen Colbert asked McCain if his book was a “trial balloon” to throw his hat in the ring for the defense secretary position, the senator replied, “Actually, I was thinking about running for president again, what do you think?”

“You would have the full resources of The Colbert Report at your back in 2016, if it were still on the air,” the host replied.
