John Oliver Stages Adorable Supreme Court Reenactments Using Dogs

As John Oliver explained to his viewers during the final segment of Sunday’s Last Week Tonight, the Supreme Court does not allow cameras in its courtroom, which means Americans are forced to look at bizarre sketches of the justices while listening to their oral arguments. After outlining the questionable justifications for this antiquated rule, Oliver presented a more entertaining way to illustrate the court’s most important cases.
Admitting he and his staff had spent an “incredible amount of time and an almost immoral amount of resources” on their latest project, Oliver presented a Supreme Court made up of real dogs with fake paws, with each breed corresponding to a specific justice. And just like that, we had bulldog Justice Antonin Scalia pontificating about whether a prison could force a Muslim inmate to trim his beard.
What’s more, Last Week Tonight posted raw footage of the animals doing their thing on its YouTube page, so anyone can take audio of Supreme Court cases and create their own, adorably informative reenactments.
