Paul Ryan‘s been the only election-related topic of discussion since this past weekend, so Jon Stewart did his part to create a discussion about those discussions. Just how are the media treating the development? With lots of mindless chatter about how it represents the end of mindless chatter, he concluded.
After mocking the perhaps-too-elaborate setup of Mitt Romney‘s announcement, Stewart gave us a rundown of numerous pundits proclaiming that the Ryan pick means the election conversation will turn to “substance,” a real debate about the issues that matter.
Yes, Stewart observed, but couldn’t that have been the case regardless? A substantive dialogue facilitated by, say,…the media?
