Kaine Defends Clinton: Letting ‘Deplorable Statements Go Unchallenged’ Is Divisive
Tim Kaine addressed the furor over Hillary Clinton‘s “basket of deplorables” remark today and argued that’s not what’s really divisive here.
While campaigning in Ohio, Kaine said, “If you let deplorable statements go unchallenged, that’s actually divisive.”
He called on Republican leaders to condemn some of the more egregious statements Trump has made over the course of the campaign.

He did perhaps make an allusion to Clinton’s remarks in saying criticisms should be more about “attitudes and ideas” than individual people, while still affirming, “If you don’t condemn divisive statements, then you allow our politics to become divided.”
People like David Duke have said they’re proud to be considered “deplorables.”
