Karl Rove Warns Democrats Crime Is a National Issue — And They’re Losing

Legendary GOP operative and Fox News contributor Karl Rove warned Democrats that crime is a national issue that they’re losing on during an appearance on America Reports Tuesday.

After playing clips of New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, as well as Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and Boston Mayor Michelle Wu vowing to fight back against President Donald Trump as he mulls crackdowns similar to the one he’s championed in Washington, D.C., guest anchor Bill Melugin asked Rove for his thoughts on Mamdani praising Bass and Wu’s cities as “the gold standard” because “they don’t want to work with ICE and therefore “protect egregious criminal, illegal immigrants.”

“This is a big problem for the Democrats. The Democrats don’t seem to understand-, certain Democrats, like the socialist running for mayor of New York, do not seem to understand the problems that this represents for their party, and their party’s label. They only need to look to recent history to see how being soft on crime, and adopting the methods of sanctuary cities blow up in their faces,” argued Rove, who continued:

In San Francisco, they had a liberal prosecutor who was recalled by a vote of 55-45. Alameda, right across the bay, they had a liberal prosecutor recalled, got 37% to retain her, 63 to vote her out. In Los Angeles, remember George Gascón, the famous sort of, “I’m a sanctuary city man, we’re gonna, you know, be lenient on crime.” That guy got defeated by 39 votes-, 39 percent to 61 percent by a guy named Nathan Hochman, who was a Republican in Los Angeles County.

And finally, in Portland, talk about a liberal city, the incumbent Mike Schmidt, who is sanctuary city, soft on crime, he went down $46.54 to a guy name Nathan Vasquez, who was a registered Republican in a very liberal city. So Mamdani is, you know, go ahead and keep doing it. But what’s it’s going to cause is a problem for the Democratic party not simply in New York City, but nationwide. The bluest of the blue, the big urban centers create problems for themselves when they have Democratic leaders like Mamdani who are soft on crime and pro-sanctuary city.
