Kasich Avoids Saying Whether He Would Punish Doctors Who Perform Abortions
In talking about abortion this morning, John Kasich avoided directly answering George Stephanopoulos‘ questions about punishing doctors who perform abortions.
Kasich made it clear he vehemently disagrees with Donald Trump on punishing women who get abortions, but Stephanopoulos pushed him a little on it.
He asked, “If you believe abortion is the taking of innocent life, why shouldn’t a woman who makes the choice to take that life face some kind of punishment or sanction?”
Kasich said it’s difficult on the women to begin with and insisted that specific laws are up to the states.
Stephanopoulos asked if the doctors should be punished. Kasich again deferred to the states, but Stephanopoulos pressed him on if he’s really not taking a position.
He said, “This way I’m not. Today I’m not. I just told you how I feel about it.”
