Krauthammer After Sessions Hearing: This Seems to Be ‘All Smoke and No Fire’

Charles Krauthammer told Martha MacCallum on Fox News tonight that Attorney General Jeff Sessions “helped himself a lot” by testifying in open session today.

He said that it’s “absurd” to try to tie Sessions to the allegations of Russian collusion, and wondered exactly “where’s the crime” in Sessions having a “brief, completely inconsequential, and forgettable” encounter with the Russian ambassador.

He made it clear again that he is not a fan of the president’s, but again said, “This seems to be a case of all smoke and no fire. Yes, it all looks like this is a cover-up, but where’s the crime? It’s the first cover-up in history with the absence of a crime.”

Krauthammer even said that it’s “sort of un-American” for Democrats to think there is some kind of “obligation” to take Trump down in his first year without much to go on.

“This is just a sideshow of a sideshow,” he said. “They’re going up tributaries to try and find anybody who can be condemned. I thought Sessions did a very good job fending off all of these charges. Where is the evidence of obstruction?”
