Lena Dunham Commits Original Sin in SNL’s Mashup of Genesis and Girls
Last night, SNL jumped on Hollywood’s latest “turn-all-the-Bible-stories-into-epic-blockbusters” trend with a highly stylized, sacrilegious version of the Genesis tale, starring Lena Dunham’s self-absored Hannah Horvath as Eve, a struggling twentysomething in the Garden of Eden.
(Best line: “I know I committed original sin, but at least it’s original and I think I deserve some credit for that.”)
Fans of Girls will appreciate the callouts to the series, including Shoshanna as a super-convincing serpent and God as an exasperated father figure who thinks Eve’s old enough to support herself. Fans of the Bible will be shocked at the gratuitous nudity, even though Genesis is technically the story of two naked people being shamed into wearing clothes.
