Letterman Bids Adieu to Longtime Rival/Frenemy Leno…
There are perhaps no better frenemies in all of television than David Letterman and Jay Leno, but on the night of Leno’s final show, Letterman bid a fond and sincere farewell to his longtime colleague and rival.
Letterman acknowledged the big transition and looked fondly back on the days when he and Leno were both chumming it up at NBC (Letterman was the original host of Late Night before it got passed down to Conan O’Brien and Jimmy Fallon).
Letterman said, “Congratulations on a wonderful run,” and mused that if he were Leno, for a nice retirement gift to himself, “I’d go out and buy myself a car.”
