Mika Brzezinski Agrees with Albright That Focus Should Be on Ukraine; Then Pivots to Missing Plane
Thursday morning, former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright wrapped up a Morning Joe segment on Vladimir Putin’s aggression in Ukraine — which came at the end of an hour dominated by the latest in the search for missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 — by telling everyone to return their focus to more consequential world issues.
“We have a very short attention span,” Albright said. “We have to see [Russia] as a long-term problem. We worked in the ’90s to try to get Russia to be a part of the system. We did everything we possibly could. And I think that they now are in a process of isolating themselves. It is dangerous. This is a game changer.”
“I know we’re all focused on the airplane,” Albright continued. “But the bottom line is, this has really, truly long-term implications. We all need to focus on how to deal with Ukraine, how to deal with U.S.-European relations, try to get our economic treaties, our trade treaties done, and then focus on our relations with Russia.”
“I totally agree with you,” host Mika Brzezinski responded. “I’m dealing with competing news interests here. But certainly, Ukraine is our focus here on Morning Joe, and has been since the story broke.”
