Man Tries to Conceal Gun After Shooting Himself in Hand During Easter Mass

A churchgoing man was taken to the hospital on Saturday after accidentally shooting a gun in his pocket and grazing his own hand during Easter Mass at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in Altoona, Pennsylvania. Witness Jason Wagler took this photo of another man who attempted to conceal the weapon in a church program as attendees tried to determine what had happened:

“We were standing for a few minutes and just before the final procession started, the gunshot went off,” Wagler told Pittsburgh’s Action News 4. “I immediately took a step back and was about to take cover. You never know if you’re safe anymore in this world. It’s a shame to know you can’t go into church without having something like this happen.”

The trigger of the gun, which did not have its safety on, reportedly caught on the man’s pants as he stood up, causing it to fire. Police have not filed any charges against him. As the Pittsburgh news station reporter stated, “It’s unclear why he brought a gun into church.”
