Marjorie Taylor Greene Gets Cornered in Hearing, Insists She’s ‘Proud’ To Vote for Bill She Trashed Just Yesterday
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) got put on the spot during a hearing on Wednesday after she ripped a piece of legislation she voted for.
On Tuesday, Greene admitted she was unaware of a provision in the Republicans’ spending bill that bans states from regulating artificial intelligence for 10 years.
“Full transparency, I did not know about this section on pages 278-279 of the OBBB that strips states of the right to make laws or regulate AI for 10 years,” she tweeted. “I am adamantly OPPOSED to this and it is a violation of state rights and I would have voted NO if I had known this was in there.”
During a meeting of Wednesday’s House Subcommittee on Delivering on Government Efficiency, Rep. Robert Garcia (D-CA) noted Greene’s repudiation of the bill. Oddly, however, Greene claimed she was “proud” of her vote in favor of it:
GARCIA: It’s also interesting because Chairwoman Green, I understand, now regrets voting for this bill, as she mentioned yesterday. Is that correct, Chairwoman Greene?
GREENE: Are you yielding me time?
GARCIA: No, I’m just asking, I think you say now you regret voting for the bill. Is that correct?
GREENE: The bill actually destroys what you guys voted for for the past four years. And I’m proud to have voted for that bill to fund border security to deport all these illegals you guys let in the country.
GARCIA: Thank you, Madam Chairwoman. Actually, Chairman, yesterday you actually said that you regret actually voting for the bill.
Shortly after posting her tweet criticizing the bill on Tuesday, Greene went on NewsNation to explain herself.
“Well, we don’t get the full bill text until very close to the time to vote for it, so that was one section that was two pages that I didn’t see,” she said. “And I think that’s pretty terrifying. We don’t know what AI is going to be capable of within one year, we don’t know what it will be capable of in five years, let alone 10 years.”
