McCain Explains on CNN Why He Was Playing Poker on Phone During Syria Hearing

Everyone at the Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing on Syria today was paying close attention to the questions and answers on one of the most important potential military actions in recent U.S. history. Except for the few minutes John McCain spent playing poker on his iPhone. McCain reflected on the hearing with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer today, and Blitzer couldn’t resist asking McCain about getting caught like a high school freshman in the back of the class getting caught scrolling through Facebook.

McCain laughed all the way through Blitzer’s question, before sarcastically defending himself.

“Well, as much as I like to always listen in rapt attention constantly with remarks of my colleagues over a three-and-a-half hour period, occasionally I get a LITTLE bored, and so I resorted–but the worst thing about it is, I lost thousands of dollars in this game.”

Blitzer, of course, had to clarify to make sure McCain was just kidding around and did not, in fact, lose a ton of money playing a mobile poker game during a Senate hearing.
