McMaster: ‘President’s Been Very Clear’ About Condemning Bigotry and Hatred

National Security Advisor H.R. McMaster appeared with George Stephanopoulos on ABC’s This Week today to talk about North Korea, but Stephanopoulos opened by asking him about Charlottesville.

Stephanopoulos brought up the criticism of President Trump‘s statement, in which he denounced violence “on many sides.”

“The President’s been very clear,” McMaster said. “We cannot tolerate this kind of bigotry, this kind of hatred. And what he did was he called on all Americans to take a firm stand against it… Tolerance has to overcome this kind of hatred.”

Stephanopoulos pressed him on Trump not being specific enough in his statement and seemingly “suggesting moral equivalence.”

McMaster said he didn’t get that impression, reiterating that the President was “very clear.”
