Megyn Kelly Grills Rand Paul on NSA: Aren’t You Exaggerating the Issue?

rand megynMegyn Kelly confronted Rand Paul on his criticisms of the NSA tonight and asked him if he’s “overstating the case” on what the NSA is collecting and monitoring.

She said it’s “not true” to claim the NSA is spying on phone calls. Paul insisted he’s never said that, just that they collect the phone records and connect the dots to determine lots of information about people.

Kelly insisted that that’s “not how this program works” and told Paul the NSA “can’t even access that data unless something suspicious happens.” And even with the question of a privacy agreement people have with their phone carriers, she said, “that doesn’t elevate it to a constitutional problem.”

Paul insisted that it’s still a large program that represents a serious violation of privacy and if they could get a lot more information, “they could.”
