Mika Brzezinski Fires Back at ‘Lying Trump TV’ for Mocking MSNBC Protest of Deported Migrant Over a ‘Hat’
Morning Joe host Mika Brzezinski snapped at “lying” hosts on right-leaning “Trump TV” networks for attacking MSNBC “lefties” protesting the deportation of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, who she raged was deported over a “baseball hat.”
Democrats and liberal commentators have been criticizing the Trump administration for stonewalling a Supreme Court order last week that demanded the government “facilitate” Garcia’s repatriation.
Garcia, who lived in the U.S. for 14 years before he was deported to El Salvador, was thrown into a notorious CECOT maximum-security megaprison last month in what the Trump administration later admitted was a mistake.
But the White House insists Garcia was a dangerous MS-13 member, citing 2019 claims by a Maryland police officer, an informant, and the fact Garcia wore Chicago Bulls merchandise – a loyalty signifier for some Salvadoran gangs.
Trump officials have said it’s up to El Salvador to return Garcia, despite the Supreme Court order.
On Thursday’s Morning Joe, Brzezinski pushed back on right-wing criticism of liberal colleagues as “lying” – arguing that “everybody” wants “criminals” to be in jail but that this debate was about “due process”:
But Trump TV will tell you that: ‘Oh, the lefties on MSNBC, the Democrats, they don’t want gang members to be thrown out of this country. Listen to them!’
That is not what we’re saying! Just FYI, everybody wants criminals and gang members to be put into jail or put in a situation where they can’t hurt people again. We’re all with you there. You can’t say that, because you’re lying when you do.
What we are saying is that people deserve the process that is due to them, whether they are illegal immigrants or American citizens. And none of these people received any of that. And many of these people are being defamed by Trump TV, defamed by the president, defamed by Pam Bondi, defamed and being labeled things that they may not be.
She went on, invoking the Chicago Bulls merchandise allegation:
And in the case of Abrego Garcia, they’re taking a baseball hat — a baseball hat — and saying he’s a terrorist because he’s wearing a baseball hat.
Who’s crazy?
Brzezinski then read aloud an online post from Hillary Clinton, saying that the lack of due process afforded Garcia meant that eventually the Trump administration could deport “anyone” and calling for “Americans of conscience must stand against this now.”
“And you know, the hope is, that there is a groundswell of support for our country, in this country, for our Constitution,” the host concluded.
