Mnuchin: Mueller Investigation Should Be ‘Over Quickly,’ There’s Nothing There

Before talking taxes on CNN this morning, Treasury Sec. Steve Mnuchin weighed in on the ongoing Mueller probe and whether the special counsel will be fired.

On State of the Union, Jake Tapper asked Mnuchin if it would “alarm” him were President Trump to fire Mueller.

Mnuchin said he was at dinner with Trump last night and hasn’t “heard anything about this, any firing.” He told Tapper he has no reason to think Trump would do it.

He went on to say, “We’ve got to get past this investigation. It’s a giant distraction. Nobody has said that in any way this impacted the outcome of the election.”

Tapper asked him if he thinks it should run its course. Mnuchin said, “I think it should be over quickly, since I think there’s nothing there. It should be over quickly. And people want to focus on other things.”
