Morgan Wallen’s Cryptic Post After Abrupt SNL Exit Rattles the Internet

Morgan Wallen made his return to Saturday Night Live this weekend — but the bigger story may be how quickly he left the stage and fired off a cryptic social media post from the airport.

The country star performed two new tracks from his upcoming album I’m The Problem during the show. But at its conclusion, instead of joining the cast and host Mikey Madison for the traditional goodnight hugs and cheers, Wallen appeared to whisper something to Madison, then walk off the stage as the credits rolled.

Shortly after, Wallen posted an Instagram story showing a jet on the tarmac with the caption: “Get me to God’s country.”

The message, coupled with the abrupt exit, set social media ablaze with speculation. Was it a diva move? A protest? Or just Wallen being Wallen? Users on X were divided along political lines, with some praising him sticking it to “woke SNL” and others slamming the departure as petty.

A source close to the singer told Variety that he “had a good time on the show and did not mean to cause any offense.”

SNL writer Josh Patten, for his part, mocked the hype over the post with his own donut-themed story:

Wallen’s appearance marked his second time on SNL, four years after his initial spot was nearly derailed by the viral video of him shouting a racial slur outside his home. While that incident temporarily hurt his career, it paradoxically sparked a spike in music streams — and eventually, a quiet reentry into radio rotation just four months later.

His new album drops May 16.
