MSNBC Panel Discusses Whether Hillary or Trump Would Benefit from Istanbul Terror Attack

hardballMSNBC’s Hardball ended tonight with a discussion about the U.S. political implications of the terrorist attack in Istanbul tonight and whether it would benefit Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump more.

Three attackers came in and opened fire before blowing themselves up, and dozens of people were killed; hundreds more were injured.

And while there are still unanswered questions in Istanbul tonight, Chris Matthews asked, “How will this attack affect the presidential race in this country?”

Joan Walsh said that “in a normal year, this might help Republicans, because this is happening on President Obama‘s watch,” but even though people assumed terrorist attacks would boost Trump’s numbers, recent polls show more people trust Clinton on terrorism and more preferred her response to Orlando than his.

Talking Points Memo’s Josh Marshall noted how much Trump “has largely disqualified himself” with the majority of people because of his temperament. Matthews asked, then, why the polls are still “fairly close.”

Matthews also wondered what Clinton could do to show she can lead aside from saying at least she’s not Trump.
