NBC’s Matt Lauer: Hillary Clinton Suffered ‘Near Death Experience’ in Iowa

Matt LauerNBC Today host Matt Lauer said that Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton suffered the equivalent of a near death experience in Iowa when she only barely avoided losing to rival Bernie Sanders.

“Hillary Clinton gets to come out of Iowa and say ‘Technically, I’m the winner,’ but this had to be a near death experience for the once presumptive nominee,” Lauer argued.

“Let’s call it what it is; she avoided a complete disaster, okay?” Chuck Todd agreed. “A win is a win, it would have been a disaster if she would have lost. Bernie Sanders has to feel great…”

Todd noted that there was a case to be made that the results in Iowa were actually bad news for Sanders, since he couldn’t win even in Iowa’s ideal conditions. That wouldn’t bode well for states like South Carolina where the demographics aren’t in his favor.

But Todd said both campaigns were acting like the complete opposite was true. “You can just feel it. The Clinton campaign may have won technically, they’re acting like they lost. The Sanders campaign is acting like they won.”
