‘No, Don’t Laugh’: Bill Maher Builds Death of Dianne Feinstein Into Opening Monologue

Bill Maher had to instruct his audience not to laugh as he reported the death of Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) on Real Time with Bill Maher, Friday.

“Big news, Dianne Feinstein, our senator for—” said Maher on his show, before laughing and telling the audience, “No, don’t laugh.”

The audience then burst into laughter as Maher continued:

No, she was a great serving senator. Died today, first female mayor of San Francisco, and everyone there today observed a minute of no shoplifting. Let me tell you, when she was mayor of San Francisco, she had that city under control. When there was poop in the street, it was because John Waters was making a movie. Also a senator for 31 years, in politics for 54 years, not once was she caught on tape giving a handjob at a musical. I think that has to count.

Maher went on to reference Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) now-infamous Beetlejuice the musical incident:

You’ve seen Lauren Boebert, she’s the MAGA congressman, I get she’s a 36-year-old grandmother. She is from Colorado, a family values Republican, was caught on tape. She was at Beetlejuice like getting her tit grabbed, vaping, grabbing cock. I’m not making this up, this is your government at work, and uh, so they threw her out of the theater and on the way out she gave them the finger and said, “Do you know who I am?” That’s the difference between Republicans and Democrats. When Biden says that he’s genuinely asking.

Sen. Feinstein passed away on Friday at the age of 90 after suffering from a series of health issues.

Feinstein received tributes from President Joe Biden and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), who choked up during a tribute on the Senate floor.

Earlier this month, Maher said it was “crazy” that elderly lawmakers like Feinstein were able to stay in office despite suffering from serious health issues.

Maher also dismissed the suggestion that criticism of Feinstein could be attributed to sexism and said, “It has nothing to do with the fact that she’s a woman. It’s the fact that she thinks the coatrack is Barbara Stanwyck.”
