Obama: Sony ‘Made a Mistake’ in Pulling The Interview

 

President Obama said unequivocally today that Sony “made a mistake” by pulling the release of The Interview after threats by hackers potentially connected to the North Korean regime. Yes, the President of the United States today stood up at a press conference and advocated for a movie starring Seth Rogen and James Franco.

The president said he was sympathetic to Sony’s plight, but doesn’t think they should have pulled the film entirely. He lamented the bad precedent this sets not just for potential future censorship due to intimidation, but Hollywood self-censorship in reaction to potential threats.

Obama pointed out that Boston still held its marathon this year with pride just a year after it was attacked, and said the thought of a Seth Rogen/James Franco joint intimidating a foreign regime kind of tells you something about that regime.
