Rachel Maddow’s Promo Team Sells Her Interview With Jon Stewart As Boxing Match

Rachel Maddow is very, very excited about her interview with Jon Stewart tomorrow. After being a guest on the Daily Show and openly being a big fan for so long, she finally has the opportunity to discuss with Stewart his role in the greater political arena. But as exciting as tomorrow’s talk is for her, it isn’t exciting enough for any of the ads her crew came up with, apparently taking a page out of Don King‘s promo book.

Brainstorming ideas for advertising the interview, Maddow’s chief promoter compared the event to Ali-Frasier or Leonard-Duran II, going in for the battle angle. Maddow seemed perplexed by the idea, her excitement turning into mild unease at the prospect of the interview being more of a fight than a talk. The mild unease became outright bewildered confusion at the branding in the first promo presented to her, an explosion-laden violent spectacular entitled “The Brawl For It All.” This idea was vehemently rejected, though the aesthetic remained through several further incarnations with slightly modified rhetoric, until “The Brawl For It All” somehow became “He’s Going To Be A Guest On Her Show.”

Maddow is clearly exuberant about her opportunity to sit down with Stewart, as she should be– she’s flying high on the ratings front and, with Stewart’s blessing, has become the go-to spot for A-list interviews on MSNBC. The promos via MSNBC below:
